Run it in your repository, or paste a diff.
A ready-to-paste PR title and summary, risk notes, a test plan from what is stated, and the questions a reviewer is likely to ask.
Before and after
Taken from the skill's README.
Before: A commit-list dump: "fix res.send / bump qs / bump proxy-addr / bump morgan"
After (skill output, from a real test run): Test run on four real commits from a public web framework. Output, unedited: "Title: Preserve ETag with Transfer-Encoding in res.send; bump deps". It grouped the fix and the three dependency bumps separately, noted which bumps were runtime vs dev, said the diff showed no lockfile change, wrote "Why: not stated in the diff", and caught that the branch it was asked to diff against was behind another branch.
What it does
Run it in your repository, or paste a diff. It reads the commits and the diff and gives you a ready-to-paste PR: title, summary, changes grouped by purpose, risk and review focus, how it was tested (only what is stated), up to five likely reviewer questions and a list of facts it could not get from the diff. It will not invent a reason, a ticket or a test result.
How it was tested
1 real-data run on four public commits (Claude Sonnet).
Tested on a real example before release. The example is shown in the Before and after section above.
How we test, what we do not do, and which assistants we ran it on.
Limits
- It only knows the diff and commit messages. The reason for the change comes from you.
- It does not run tests. "How it was tested" says Not stated unless you tell it.
- It does not open the PR. You paste the text.
- Very large diffs: it reads the stat first and then the key files, and says what it skipped.
Works with
Works with any assistant that reads SKILL.md skills (Claude, Codex, Gemini CLI, Cursor and others), plus a paste-in prompt version for ChatGPT or any chatbot. Inside a git repository it runs git itself. Otherwise paste a diff.
Install
- Run
npx skills add proskillpacks/skillsin your project and pick this skill. Or copy thepr-description-and-review-prepfolder from GitHub (https://github.com/proskillpacks/skills/tree/main/skills/developers/pr-description-and-review-prep). - Put the
pr-description-and-review-prepfolder where your assistant looks for skills. The generic path is.agents/skills/(ornpx skills addfrom a folder). Tool-specific paths:- Claude Code:
~/.claude/skills/(or.claude/skills/inside one project) - OpenAI Codex, Gemini CLI, Cursor and others:
.agents/skills/or the skills folder their docs name - claude.ai: zip the skill folder yourself, then Customize, Skills, the plus button, Create skill, Upload a skill (code execution must be on in Settings, Capabilities)
- ChatGPT or any chatbot: open the skill's
prompt.md, paste it into the chat, then paste your own text or link - Steps for each tool, with links to its official docs: how to install Agent Skills
- Claude Code:
- Ask for the job in plain words, for example: "I am about to open a PR from this branch into main. Write the PR description.". The skill loads by itself.
