Policy Checker

Policy gaps and contradictions across refund, shipping, privacy and terms, with fixes to paste.

The download is the free bundle on Gumroad (pay what you want, from $0), which holds a selection of the free skills. All of them are on GitHub under the MIT licence.

What you give it

Your store URL.

What you get

A scored audit of your refund, shipping, privacy, terms and contact policies. It flags missing items and contradictions with your FAQ and banners, and gives fixes you can paste.

Before and after

Real test, paraphrased so the store can't be identified. Taken from the skill's README.

From one run on a public men's grooming store on 2026-10-03. In the real report, every finding quotes the store's own text word for word. Here they're paraphrased:

FoundWhere
Another company's name left in the class-action waiver (copied from a template)Terms of service
The return window "usually" applies, and depends on the payment processorRefund policy
"No questions asked" on product pages, but the policy excludes items not in original conditionProduct page vs refund policy
Prepaid return label promised for exchanges in the policy, but for returns too in the FAQRefund policy vs FAQ

Before (paraphrased): refunds are offered "as long as" a third party allows it, "usually" within a set number of days.

After (suggested, paste-ready): "You can return any order for a full refund within [N] days of the purchase date. After [N] days, we can offer store credit instead. Store credit [does / does not] expire."

What it does

A free Agent Skill that checks a Shopify store's refund, shipping, privacy, terms and contact policies. It compares them with your FAQ, returns page and homepage banners, then tells you:

  • what's missing,
  • what contradicts itself,
  • what will confuse customers.

Each finding comes with fixed wording you can paste into Settings > Policies.

Give it a store URL. That's all it needs.

Not legal advice. It flags common gaps; have a lawyer review anything high-stakes.

How it was tested

Tested on 4 real public Shopify stores. Final scores: 10, 10, 9 and 9 out of 10.

The tests ran on real public data, never made-up cases, and were scored against a written rubric. A skill in this range ships only when every test scores 8/10 or more.

How we test, what we do not do, and which assistants we ran it on.

Limits

  • It reads public pages only: policies, common FAQ and returns pages, the homepage and a product page. Text that loads only with JavaScript can be missed.
  • It flags common gaps. It is not legal advice; have a lawyer review anything high-stakes.

Works with

Works with any assistant that reads SKILL.md skills (Claude, Codex, Gemini CLI, Cursor and others), plus a paste-in prompt version for ChatGPT or any chatbot. We run our release tests on Claude Sonnet and Opus. Use your assistant's strongest model: in our tests, a small, fast model added facts that were not in the source data. The fetch script needs Python 3 (standard library only) and web access.

For people who use AI assistants

  1. Unzip the free download. It holds the free skill folders, including shopify-policy-checker, ready-made zips for claude.ai in a claude-ai folder, and a README. Or copy the folder from GitHub.
  2. Put the shopify-policy-checker folder where your assistant looks for skills. The generic path is .agents/skills/ (or npx skills add from a folder). Tool-specific paths:
    • Claude Code: ~/.claude/skills/ (or .claude/skills/ inside one project)
    • OpenAI Codex, Gemini CLI, Cursor and others: .agents/skills/ or the skills folder their docs name
    • claude.ai: Customize, Skills, then the plus button, Create skill, Upload a skill, and upload the zip from the claude-ai folder without unzipping it (code execution must be on in Settings, Capabilities)
    • ChatGPT or any chatbot: open the skill's prompt.md, paste it into the chat, then paste your own text or link
    • Steps for each tool, with links to its official docs: how to install Agent Skills
  3. Ask for the job in plain words. The skill loads by itself.
