How to install Agent Skills in Gemini CLI

A notice at the top of that page says that Gemini CLI was replaced by Antigravity CLI on 18 June 2026 for unpaid tier and Google One users. If that is you, read the notice and the Antigravity docs. Everything below is from the Gemini CLI page.

Where skills go

• User skills: ~/.gemini/skills/ or the alias ~/.agents/skills/
• Workspace skills: .gemini/skills/ or the alias .agents/skills/. These are shared with your team through version control.

The docs say that within the same level, .agents/skills/ takes precedence over .gemini/skills/.

Install with a command

The docs show this form, from the terminal:

gemini skills install https://github.com/user/repo.git --consent

Options in the docs: --scope user|workspace (user is the default), --path for the sub-directory in a Git repository that holds the skill, and --consent to skip the security confirmation. For one of our free skills, built from those options (we have not run this exact line):

gemini skills install https://github.com/proskillpacks/skills.git --path skills/ecommerce/shopify-policy-checker --scope workspace

Or copy by hand, or use npx

git clone https://github.com/proskillpacks/skills
mkdir -p ~/.agents/skills
cp -r skills/skills/ecommerce/shopify-policy-checker ~/.agents/skills/

npx skills add proskillpacks/skills -a gemini-cli

Check it

Inside a session, /skills list shows discovered skills and /skills reload refreshes the list. From the terminal, gemini skills list --all lists them. The docs say Gemini asks for your confirmation before it uses a skill.

Limits

• The product has changed names for some users, as the notice says. Follow the official page if it differs from this one.
